One major reason China’s planned economy failed was the unbelievable amount of data required.
The documentary gave as an example, economic planners tried to predict how much steel would be needed for lady’s hairpins in a future five-year plan. They used this projection to predict how much iron ore and how many furnaces etc would be needed.
